Section 1.8: Transferring ownership
Owners manage billing, roles and every member. An organization can have more than one owner, so you can add an owner alongside you or hand the organization over and step down to admin. Only an owner can do either.
1. Two ways to hand over
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Make owner | They become an owner and you stay one. |
| Transfer ownership | They become an owner and you become an admin. |
Only active members can be made owners. Someone whose account is managed by your company's identity provider cannot, because their role comes from the identity provider.
2. From a member's page
- Open Organization in the sidebar and click the person on your team list.
- In the Ownership section, click Make owner or Transfer ownership.
- Read the confirmation. It names the person and your organization and says what changes.
- Click Make owner or Transfer ownership to confirm.
ABRAM confirms with Owner added or Ownership transferred.
The Ownership section does not appear on your own page, on another owner's page, or for a deactivated member.
3. Before you delete your account
ABRAM will not let an organization be left without an owner. If you try to delete your account in Settings > Security > Privacy while you are the only owner of an organization, ABRAM tells you: You own an organization that would be left without an owner.
- Next to the organization, click Transfer ownership.
- Search for the member by name or email and pick them.
- Choose Transfer ownership or Make owner, and confirm.
- Go back to deleting your account.
On a phone, the same step appears in account deletion as Transfer ownership first.
