Section 3.6: Stripboard & Scene Scheduling

The Stripboard turns your scenes into a shooting order. Each scene is a coloured strip you drag into a shoot day. Day out of days then shows which cast and elements work on which days.

1. Where to find it

Open a project and go to Production. The section can show up to five tabs:

• Shoot days: your days and their call sheets. See Section 3.12.
• Stripboard: sequence scenes into shoot days.
• Breakdown: where scenes and elements come from, with Scenes and Elements views. See Section 2.4.
• Day out of days: which cast and elements are needed on which days.
• Run of show: a timed rundown. See Section 4.7.

Which tabs you see depends on the project's industry. Every industry except Broadcast / TV / Streaming, Event Coverage and Other shows Stripboard, Breakdown and Day out of days and hides Run of show. Broadcast / TV / Streaming and Event Coverage show Run of show and hide those three. Other, which covers Photography, Video editing, Graphic design, Sound design and Multi discipline projects, shows all of them along with the Schedule view under Plan. A project with no industry set shows both. People who can manage the project can also switch tabs on or off with Configure tabs in the project's three-dot menu.

Scenes come from the breakdown. If you have not broken down a script or added scenes yet, start with Section 2.4.

2. The Stripboard

Each scene is a strip, coloured by its setting so you can read the board at a glance:

Switch between three views:

• Strips: the classic board of strips.
• One line: one row per scene, for reading across the schedule.
• Columns: one column per shoot day.

What you can do on the board

• Add day: add a shoot day to the board.
• Drag strips to reorder scenes within a day and between days.
• Add rows between strips for a Lunch, Company move, Rehearsal, Break or Banner.
• A Short turnaround warning flags a day that does not leave enough rest after the one before it.
• Search scenes and filter by unit, cast, interior or exterior, day or night, and location. The search and filters are in the Strips and One line views.
• Unscheduled holds the scenes that are not on a day yet. In Strips it is a group at the end of the board, and in Columns it is a side panel.

More actions

• Print: a print view of the board.
• Sync crew: creates a work order for each shoot day that does not have one yet, with the crew from that day's call sheet. It needs Manage tasks on the project.
• Import schedule: brings in a Movie Magic schedule, a Movie Magic budget export or a script. It is in the more menu on every Production tab except Run of show, for people who can manage the project.

In the Columns view you also get:

• AI sort board: ABRAM suggests a shooting order. It counts toward your AI usage.
• Export CSV: download the board as a spreadsheet.

3. Plan access

The Stripboard is fully editable on every plan, including Free: adding days, reordering strips, Sync crew, Export CSV and print. People who can manage the project edit the board, and everyone else reads it. AI sort board counts toward your AI usage, so it draws on what your plan includes.

4. Day out of days

Day out of days is built from your scenes, their tags and the board. It lays out who and what is needed on each shoot day, so you can see the whole shoot at once.

• Pick Cast, Crew or an element category to report on.
• Sort by Cast number (Cast only), Name, First work day, Last work day, Work days or Hold days, ascending or descending.
• Use Union rules to check against SAG theatrical or SAG TV and new media.
• Click Export CSV to download it. Print is in the more menu.

Each day carries a standard code. In the Cast matrix, click a day to override it with Work, Start, Finish, Start and finish, Hold or Released. Clicking a row also lets you set its scheduling rules, such as Allow hold days and Minimum release gap, days.

5. Elements

Elements live in Breakdown, in the Elements view. For each element you see how many scenes it appears in and how many shoot days it lands on. See Section 2.4.
